The Cyclospora parasite causes cyclosporiasis, spreading through contaminated food or water, primarily fresh produce. An outbreak has resulted in over 800 cases since May, mainly affecting Michigan. Despite fear and misinformation suggesting all produce is unsafe, health experts advise washing and cooking vegetables to reduce risk while still consuming them for their health benefits.
