Obedience is Required: A Non-Negotiable Expectation
As a child of the Most High God, obedience is not optional—obedience is required. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of obeying Yahweh’s law. It doesn’t just say obey it; it says to GUARD it. Guarding something means you protect it with everything in you. Shouldn’t we do that with YHVH’s commandments?

Faith Requires Action
Don’t take my word for it. Yeshua gives us a clear example in John 9. A man, blind from birth, wasn’t blind because of sin but so that the “works of God could be made manifest in him” (v3). Yeshua spit, made mud, and wiped it on the man’s eyes. Now, here’s the catch—the man had to do something. He had to activate his faith through obedience. Yeshua commanded him to wash in the Pool of Siloam. If he had refused, would he have stayed blind? Only after obeying did he walk away seeing.
Let’s repeat that: His faith was only activated when he obeyed.
Faith Without Works is Dead
James 2 makes it crystal clear:
- Verse 14 – “What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?”
- Verse 20 – “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”
- Verse 26 – “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
You can strut around like a banty rooster, crowing about your great faith, but if you don’t back it up with obedience, your faith is worthless. No one respects a rooster who just makes noise without protecting the hen house.
Abraham: A Man of Faith and Obedience
Abraham didn’t just believe in the Most High’s promise; he acted on it. YHVH told him to sacrifice Isaac. That was a tough command! But Abraham’s obedience proved his faith. If he had refused, his faith would have been empty words.
James 2 confirms this:
- Verse 21 – “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?”
- Verse 22 – “Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?”
- Verse 24 – “Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.”
Obedience: Proof of Salvation
Many claim that following the Torah is “trying to earn salvation.” That is nonsense. Obedience is the fruit of salvation, not the cause of it. If you are truly saved, you will obey Yahweh’s law, because you will want to obey.
1 Peter 1 reinforces this:
- Verse 14 – “As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance.”
- Verse 16 – “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
- Verse 17 – “And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work…”
Faith Alone? Not So Fast
We won’t be judged by our faith alone, but by our works. James already said it—faith without works is dead. Yeshua Himself made it plain:
John 14:15 – “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
Obedience vs. Disobedience
Obedience brings blessings, favor, and eternal life in YHVH’s kingdom. Disobedience leads to chaos, separation, and destruction. The choice seems obvious.
Now, put yourself in the Father’s shoes. Would you want to spend eternity with a group of people who refuse to follow simple commands? Commands that aren’t even hard? Think about it.
The commandments aren’t some impossible burden. They’re for our good. They protect us, guide us, and show our love for Yahweh. If we claim to love Him, we must obey Him.
So, what will you choose? Obedience or disobedience? Your eternity depends on it.
