Why I Refuse to Send Empty Newsletters (And What You’ll Always Find in Mine)
One of my biggest pet peeves is opening my inbox and seeing email after email that offers absolutely nothing of value. You know the kind. The subject line promises something exciting, but when you open it, it is just another sales pitch. Another product. Another attempt to get you to buy something.
There is nothing wrong with selling. Businesses need to sell in order to survive. But when every single email is only about selling, it begins to feel impersonal and transactional. It starts to feel like the person behind the message is not actually interested in serving their readers at all.
That is exactly why I have always wanted my Healthy in Heart newsletter to be different.
Yes, I do share new products. Yes, I highlight savings, bundles, and resources that I believe will help you. And yes, this is a business. In order to keep creating books, journals, resources, and tools that support your journey, I do need to sell things.
But I never want you—my reader—to feel like that is the only reason I show up in your inbox.
My goal is for every Healthy in Heart newsletter to offer something meaningful. Something thoughtful. Something that nourishes you in some way as you walk through your week.
Newsletters Should Offer Value
When I sit down to write each newsletter, I ask myself a simple question:
What can I give the reader this week that will add value to their life?
Because an inbox should not just be another marketplace shouting for attention. It can also be a place of encouragement, reflection, and inspiration.
That is why each Healthy in Heart newsletter is designed to include several meaningful elements, not just announcements or promotions.
My intention is that when you open one of my emails, you leave with something worthwhile.
This Week’s Nourishment
One of the sections you will regularly find in my newsletter is This Week’s Nourishment.
This is where I share an idea, reflection, or insight connected to whole-being wellness. Sometimes it might focus on food. Sometimes it might focus on emotional health. Other times it may touch on spiritual rhythms, rest, or living more intentionally.
The goal of This Week’s Nourishment is simple: to offer something that feeds more than just the body. It is meant to nourish the mind, the heart, and the way we move through the world.
A Question to Sit With
Life moves fast. Too fast, most of the time.
Many of us spend our days reacting to everything around us without ever pausing to reflect on what is happening inside us.
That is why another feature of the Healthy in Heart newsletter is a Question to Sit With.
These questions are not meant to be answered quickly. They are meant to be carried with you for a while. Something you might think about during a quiet moment, a walk outside, or while journaling.
Sometimes the most powerful growth happens not from rushing toward answers, but from learning to sit with the right questions.
The Heart of Healthy in Heart
Another part of the newsletter that matters deeply to me is what I call The Heart of Healthy in Heart.
This section is more personal.
Here is where I share something from my own life, my reflections, or something I have been learning on this journey of health, faith, and intentional living.
Healthy in Heart was never meant to be just a store or a website. It is meant to be a community built around the pursuit of wholeness—body, mind, and spirit.
The Heart of Healthy in Heart is where that deeper purpose lives.
The Recipe of the Week
Food has always been and always will be an important part of the journey toward health.
That is why every Healthy in Heart newsletter includes the Recipe of the Week.
These recipes are not about complicated ingredients or fancy techniques. They are about nourishing, simple foods that support real health.
Whether it is a comforting bowl, a wholesome meal idea, or something new to try in your kitchen, the goal is to offer practical inspiration you can actually use in your daily life. Because sometimes the most powerful changes begin with something as simple as what we put on our plate.
More Than Just Another Email
At the end of the day, I know your inbox is full. You probably receive dozens—maybe even hundreds—of emails every week. All of them are asking for your attention, your time, or your money. That is why I never want my newsletter to feel like just another email from someone trying to sell you something.
Instead, my hope is that each Healthy in Heart newsletter offers:
- Something meaningful
- Something thoughtful
- Something nourishing
- Something worth opening
Yes, I will still share new books, journals, and products. I will still let you know about sales and bundles that can save you money. That is part of running a business.
But my promise is that it will never be the only reason you hear from me. Because the goal of Healthy in Heart has always been bigger than that.
My hope is that every newsletter that lands in your inbox gives you something of value—something to reflect on, something to try, or something that simply encourages you as you move through your week.
And if it does that, then I consider that email worth sending.
As always, I am open to feedback! What nourishes you? What would you like to see more of? Simply hit reply to the newsletter, and let’s have a conversation!
